The threatened thunder storms held off and let Steve Caddick and Avalon play some mean banjo and ham it up at Choate Park in Medway, Massachusetts on Monday, July 27th. Changing hats and wise cracking kept the crowd in stitches, but they also appreciated the remarkable skill of these fine musicians.
They performed songs from The Music Man, The Wizard of Oz, Riders in the Sky, You are My Sunshine, 12th St. Rag, Alabama Jubilee, El Cumbanchero, Avalon (of course!) and more. It was a fun hour for the local folk.
Steve Caddick was playing on his father's 1924 4-string Vega tenor banjo, while Paul Poirier had his father-in-Law's 1933 Vega tenor banjo, with Rene Marion on a (relatively new) 1956 Gibson tenor guitar and Bob Paul on string bass. In 1968, Bob Paul was the music teacher at Seekonk High
School, and Steve was one of his students. Steve said Bob taught him how to sing while in the Glee Club. Thanks, Bob. Good job on the banjo, too!
