Mollie

Many fans and supporters came to the Sherborn  to hear Mollie Malone and wish her a Happy Birthday – with testimonials from  many of the musicians who have played with her in the past at the Plough and Stars in Cambridge, Skipjacks, Craig Balls’ various bands.

You can't go wrong with Gershwin!  Jeff Hughes took the mic and sensitively led the dexterous swing ensemble, Blue Moon.

Mollie’s vocals are heartfelt, bluesy, she sings with feeling and warmth  I’ve Got a Crush on You, Foggy Day in London Town, Nice Work if You Can Get It – (Bronek great string bass solo.)

Backed only by Ross Petot on piano, she gave a tender, poignant version of Porgy and Bess’s I Loves You Porgy.

John Clark was featured with rhythm section on Lady Be Good, fine intro, Bronek bowing on string bass, clarinet trading 4’s with Steve Taddeo on drums.

Clark  took out tenor sax to back Mollie on Somebody Loves Me, and You Can’t Take That Away From Me. Nice!

Master Musician Jeff Hughes demonstrated his stunning style on 1922 King trumpet on a brilliant version of It Ain’t Necessarily So, as it’s never been played before, and probably won’t ever be heard ever again. Pity there wasn’t a video in the crowd!

There was an  impressive duet with Jeff on trumpet and John Clark on tenor sax for Do It Again.  Fantastic!  The Blue Moon swing band played several instrumentals, I’ve Got Plenty of Nothin’, Who Cares.

They said goodnight with Someone To Watch Over Me.  Gershwin would have been proud!
