Rare treat - classic jazz played by a sextet of some of the finest World Class musicians around.  The Seacoast Stompers will be performing once a month at the Acton Jazz Café, a wonderful, intimate club. The ambiance is friendly, with good food and drink, room for dancing, and the feeling of a private living room.

November 1st, the musicians  were Frank Stadler, leader/piano; Scott Philbrick cornet, Craig Ball clarinet, Jimmy Mazzy banjo, Bob McHenry acoustic bass, and Steve Taddeo drums.  Dave Whitney, originally scheduled for this gig, was under the weather.  But it was a beautiful, sunny, New England day, especially conducive to  a nice afternoon drive, and listening to some great jazz!

Frank Stadler

Steve Taddeo

They started off blazing, straight away, with At the Jazz Band Ball and Ain't Misbehavin', the high-spirited front line setting the atmosphere for a fiery afternoon of HOT Jazz.   Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone. Then gently, Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans,  McHenry wistfully phrasing, bowing that fine acoustic string bass.   Jimmy being Jimmy, taking us back to the 1930's in his own unique vocal style.

Up-tempo again with Nobody But Me, The Preacher, Craig giving it his signature, room filling, sound.  After You've Gone.  Frank's nimble fingers calmed them down for a bit with Sleepy Time Down South, but Scott picked it up again at the end, finishing with a flourish.  Papa's Gone - Goodbye.  Fantastic!  And that was just the first set.

See   More pictures     Taddeo   This is just a teaser for one fabulous afternoon of rare Traditional Jazz, once a month only, on Saturday afternoon at the Acton Jazz Café!  They'll be back on December 6th - mark your calendars.  Flyer

NOTE:  It's easy to miss the sign for the Acton Jazz Café, because the restaurant is downstairs, in the rear of the building.   Watch for a big white sign for Payright Payroll Services - the Café is right beside it.  Drive around lower back where there is parking.

Coming from the West, take Rt. 495 to  Exit 31,  Routes 2A/119,  follow signs to Acton; go ~4 miles on 2A/119, AJC is on the right.  (Make sure you bear right at  intersection of 119 and 110,  stay on 2A)
