John Russell Trio – Drums, Noel Kaletsky – Reeds, Bill Sinclair – Piano Jazz Lunch is back! Every Tuesday noon ‘til 2:00 pm. Tell all your friends! The music is hot, the menu varied and prices for today’s economy. Bill’s Jazz Lunch will continue through Memorial Day 2013. Please join the Tuesday fans to support OKOM. Seated with Sonny, Virginia and Don (Tuesday regulars,) I relaxed with a delightful lunch, good service and great music for listening pleasure. It never ceases to amaze me how well John, Noel and Bill play each and every selection to perfection. One wonders how musicians remember so many songs and requests not often heard. What makes OKOM so unique? No charts and all improvisation. Each Tuesday, to the delight of the audience, we are entertained with selections that suit Noel’s skill on clarinet, alto and soprano sax. What is really nice about this trio is they work together in harmony to produce a great sound. John is a true “band’s drummer” while lovable Bill hums along as his “fingers do the walking.” Here are a few familiar numbers played this week including requests. Pretty Baby Of Mine, Exactly Like You, Baby Face, Sweet Sue, I Can’t Give You Anything But Love, I’ll See You In My Dreams, Just A Closer Walk and Louisiana Fairy Tale (a favorite of the late Dave Huxtable who passed away 12 years ago.) and written by Fats Waller 1935. Floating Down the Old Green River (a request I had not previously heard.) Supporting OKOM is the only way it will have longevity.
