The Greater Milford Community Chorus
2011 Winter Concert at Memorial Hall, Milford Massachusetts
December 2 - 4, 2011
Dan Zabinski directing the Greater Milford Community
Chorus |
The Greater Milford Community Chorus sang to a full house
every single night/afternoon at Milford's Memorial Hall and Cultural
Center, ably lead by new Chorus Director Dan Zabinski, and supported
by pianist Wayne Ward and percussionist Daniel Byer. It was
an excellent program.
It started off with winter songs, though the weather has been
more like fall. Joshua Freehan and Deanna Kowalczyk were featured
on I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm. The chorus
continued with In the Bleak Midwinter, and Marshmallow
World. Lynelle Bennet and Cindi Rudman had fine solos on
Night of Silence.
Basses and Tenors singing a beautiful
Blue Christmas,
with solo by Joshua Freehan, 3rd from right, rear.
|
Alicia Mainville was marvelous with Where's the Line to See
Jesus? A new tune that is popular this season. Michael
Smith had the vocal on "Going Home for Christmas" with
no mic, and accompanied only by the piano. Fine bass voice
- he doesn't need a microphone!
The chorus continued with Little Drummer Boy, For Unto us
a Child is Born. Christmas Jazz was really jazzy!
Members of the Soprano Section |
.
The sopranos and altos were featured in
an upbeat Silver Bells, with the drummer simulating
the horses' "clip clopping."
|
There was an intermission, with tasty home-made refreshments,
and a raffle of several prizes. Then the chorus members all
donned Hawaiian Leis for Mele Kalikimaka, followed with
What Child is This.
Having fun with the ingredients making
up
a "Fruitcake", a cute little tune by Philip Hagemann
& Penny Leka.
|
|
Alleluia, words and music by Randall thompson was next.
Kwanzaa Celebration, with Daniel Byer using the bongo drums
for emphasis. Dona Dona was done in a Latin Beat with solos
by Alicia Mainville and Michael Smith. Lisa Mather was featured
on Rise Up Shepherd and Follow, an African American spiritual.
Accompanist Wayne Ward on piano, and Daniel
Byer, percussionist, were excellent support for the chorus,
providing the right keys and background chords.
|
|
There was an appreciative audience, with many fans who return year
after year.
Fan club members (l. to r.) Phyllis Collins,
Barbara Sheehan, and Jackie Freeley. |
Linnea is
the spark that keeps the audience smiling!
|
The Director always enlists the audience for a sing along with
Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Joy to the World, O Come, All Ye
Faithful, and Deck the Halls. He gets the audience
warmed up for the Finale.
Everyone is familiar with the Grand Finale, the Hallelujah
Chorus, from Handel's Messiah. They know the words
and look forward to joining in; Dan invites the braver ones up onto the
stage with the chorus. It was a great Finale to a Fabulous
evening!!
From all the members of the Greater Milford Community Chorus:
"May your Holidays be Merry and your New Year filled with Blessings
and Joy!"
Many thanks to Len Morcone, Director of the Milford Community
School Use Program, and to Jim Miller, for video taping the performance
and allowing it to be aired daily on local Milford TV channel 11
at 9AM, and 1, 3, 7 and 9PM.
