The Dixie Diehards, a fun, upbeat Dixieland Jazz Band, with vocalist Dolly Fruzzetti, turned their second appearance at the newly renovated Amazing Things Firehouse into a blazing performance reminiscent of New Orleans, their spiritual home.  Their tight arrangements and imaginative solos appropriately reflected the hot passions of that marvelous city.  Alan Shapiro, trumpet; Jim Kelleher, trombone; Santo Pullara, clarinet; Paul Peterson, sax;  Dolly Fruzzetti, vocals; Chris Wadsworth, banjo; Dr. Dale Ellenberg, drums; Bill Kiesewetter, piano; Steve Shaw, tuba; Rick Foster, cornet/vocals, and MC.

Rick puts his heart and soul into his vocals, and as a staff reporter for the Attleboro Sun Chronicle, many hours into Public Relations for the band.

Paul Peterson, sax, and Santo Pullara on clarinet  carry on lightening exchanges that will singe the hair on your neck!  These two are definitely in sync, whether Peterson is on tenor or soprano!!

The band played pop 20-30's tunes, When You're Smilin', Five Foot Two, Please Don't Talk About Me when I'm gone (medley-vocals: Foster/Fruzzetti.) At The Jazz Band Ball, Hello Dolly, Midnight in Moscow.

Rick introduced Dolly Fruzzetti, who, fortunately for us, has come out of retirement  and resumed her career as a true Red Hot Mama, with vocals on Hard Hearted Hanna, Give My Regards to Broadway/Yankee Doodle Dandy medley, I Found a New Baby, There Are Smiles.

Framed by the Amazing Things banner, Jim Kelleher plays tailgate trombone with perceptive  phrasing and timing.

Nimble fingers on the keyboard,
Bill Kiesewetter.

Steve Shaw on powerful tuba, sustained the basic Dixieland Jazz oompah beat throughout, and turned into the infamous roaring lion on the popular 1917 Tiger Rag.

Last set, Rick gave a brief commercial about the band's performance the previous week of the F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel "The Great Gatsby" inside the Marble House-like walls of the Attleboro Public Library  where they held  20's jazz and parlor games, even Charleston dancing. He mentioned their next concert will be at a Christmas performance at The Bay View at 4380 North Main St. in Fall River, 7pm.  The band continued with Milneburg Joys, and Rick's vocal on St. James Infirmary.

The finale started with a reflective Closer Walk, then they  jumped into a blistering Saints, parading at the foot of new Firehouse stage.   This fun afternoon of upbeat Dixieland Jazz was over, but the audience craved for more.  Director Michael Moran, amenable to his audience, obliged for one last tune, Bourbon Street Parade. As we were leaving we overheard a group of ladies in the audience  saying "This was great fun!  Let's do it again!!"
