Sunday Service
with
Rev. Josh Cromwell, started with Jeff Hughes cornet, Brian Priebe trombone, Mike
Kuehn banjo, Albie Bernard tuba, Bob Bequillard drums, and Ross
Petot piano.
Rev. Josh told us that "Priebe is familiar with this music, as
Music Minister & Choral Director at Calvary
Lutheran Church, he plays all styles,
chamber, classified, rock. He plays in
elite society bands and in DC,
the trombone capital of the world. And he's
wearing Eel skin shoes."
Bob Seeley took over at the piano/vocals. Didn't It Rain, Children in
marvelous Boogie Beat. Bequillard keeping time with soft sticks on cymbals, great banjo. Brian's
trombone and Jeff's cornet make a great combo!
Just a Little While to Stay Here, Bob started with a rhythmic,
very reverent, straight ahead piano, "so we know what it's all
about", until Bequillard gave him a loud drum roll, and then
the band went
MAD! Forget the reverence!
Jeff invited other musicians up. Jon Seiger came up on trumpet, Janie, Ross
back on piano. Things almost calmed down.
Rev. Josh told us "There's something more to all this than simply
music - it points to one who has purpose in this world; open your
hearts and mind to God's presence". He said a Prayer for peace, while
Janie sang a reverent Lead Me, Savior.

Reverand Josh's sermon: "Liturgy evolves here. Jazz is all about 22 Genesis - it's a
toughie. Don't try to force this, wait for it to end."
In 22, God
tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied.
God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you
love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a
burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”
Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He
set out for the place God had told him about. Abraham took the
wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he
himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on
together, Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham,
“Father?”
“Yes, my son?” Abraham replied. “The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the
lamb for the burnt offering?” Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for
the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together.
When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built
an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac
and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. Then he reached
out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.
But the angel
of the LORD called out to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied.
“Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do
anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not
withheld from me your son, your only son.” Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by
its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a
burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called that place The
LORD Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of
the LORD it will be provided.”

Rev. Josh continued, "God isn't in sales. It's a tough pitch." " We have just a little while to stay here. It's a
great trip. While we're here, be confident in whose hands you're in.
Don't wait to be perfect. Go do what needs to be done."
"Father Mychal Judge,
the New York City Fire Department chaplain who died at
ground zero September 11, 2001 would pray, "Lord, take me
where you want me to... Help me to say what you want me to
say, and keep me from getting in your way....
"
Back in Hyannis, Rev. Josh takes care of all the strays - he
takes in the homeless, provides a shower, gives them a meal, clean
linens and a place to sleep. "You don't have to be more moral,
just pass on God's light so nobody has to live in the darkness."
