The evening was pure magic. One could not have
asked for a more perfect evening and setting for Joel's house party.
People were gathering early to chat with friends and musicians. Joel
and Donna's beautiful Early American home was the right venue for the vintage
music that rang throughout the house. Guests finally settled down to hear
some of our finest and well known musicians.
Fred Vigorito and Paul Monat cornet, Noel Kaletsky
reeds, Craig Grant trombone, Jan Frankle piano, Tom Palinko drums, and
of course Joel Schiavone banjo and vocals.
From the opening strains of HINDUSTAN, we knew we were
going to have a great evening. Featured in a recent movie "Midnight
in Paris" - the band played "Have you seen my mother?"
Followed by Craig Grant's wonderful version of "Skylark."
|
Paul came forward to move the audience with his rendition of
"Memories of you" by Sonny Dunham.
|
At this point, the band came together to play the
familiar and rousing number "Panama." When the band played "If I
Had You"- it brought tears to my eyes (and many others in the audience.)

When the break was over and everyone was once again
seated, the band was in full swing and Joel on banjo got the audience
singing and dancers on the floor. Yes, those dandy dancers
cut quite a rug.....Joel and Donna's beautiful oriental rug.
There were many wonderful numbers played and it
made one wonder why people are not writing songs like these anymore

When Joel sang "How Deep is the Ocean?"-
words and music by Irving Berlin- Joel did a great job.
This also brought back memories of an era long past.

How fortunate we are to have our musicians still
playing this kind of music and patrons to keep it alive and well.
Thank you Joel and Donna for opening your lovely
home to 100 very appreciative guests. I hope you will do this
again next summer.
In the meantime, Joel has his 50th reunion of Your
Father's Mustache at Carnegie Hall in New York October 8-10. See
http://www.reunion.yfmsite.com//
for information. Then February 11-12, 2012 click on
www.jeffandjoelshouseparty.com
once again for another Jeff & Joel party at Joel's house in Guilford.
What a great idea house parties are in our changing
times and economy. They bring people together and give the musicians
a chance to play.
Thanks to all Joel's volunteers who helped make Tuesday
a huge success. And, last but not least a huge thank you
to our terrific musicians, Fred Vigorito, Albie Bernard, Paul Monat,
Tom Palinko, Jan Frenkle, Craig Grant, Noel Kaletsky, Joel Schiavone.
