Yes, “There’s
Been Some Changes Made” by the Seacoast Stompers. For the first
time ever, they did not begin with "At the Jazz Band Ball". Lee Prager, trombone, has joined the group.
“Love is Just Around the Corner”
featured Jimmy on vocal and Lee on trombone. A mournful
ballad, “New Orleans”, followed with Steve Taddeo using brushes.
Frank Stadler announced that at Bob McHenry’s request, they would
"play Basin Street", without delay.
Next was an upbeat “The Preacher” with Jimmy scatting, “A Closer
Walk With Thee” and “Sweet Georgia Brown”.

For variations,
Bob skillfully uses a drumstick on the string bass. |
Jimmy sang a
moving “America
the Beautiful” softly accompanied by all the band in memory of
September 11 events.
After “I Found a
New Baby”, Carrie sang “One of These Days”. “Little Darlin” came
next with a unique solo by Steve Taddeo using brushes and cymbals.
Frank commented he had never heard Steve play so quietly.
“Indiana”, with
solos by Bob and Craig Ball, a slow “Wrap Your Troubles in
Dreams” for dancing and a rambunctious “Swing that Music” wrapped
up the set.
A medley that
included “When the Saints Go Marching In” was followed by “How Come
You Do Me Like You Do”, Dorsey’s theme, “I’m Getting Sentimental Over
You”, “Momma’s Gone – Good Bye” and “Do You Know What it Means to
Miss New Orleans”.
Scotty Philbrick
sang a playful “T’aint No Sin To Take Off Your Skin and Dance
Around In Your Bones”. Jimmy followed, singing what Frank
called a “hybrid” “Up A Lazy River”. The great afternoon ended with “Aint Gonna
Give Nobody None of My Jelly Roll”.
The Seacoast Stompers will be back
at the Acton Jazz Cafe, 452 Great Rd. Acton, MA on Saturday, October
2nd.. |
