The Seacoast Stompers raised the roof again at the Acton Jazz
Café, with a capacity crowd enjoying great Traditional/Dixieland
Jazz and Swing. There is so much spirited inventiveness and
passion evident in their playing, they are truly “all about the
music”.
There were no substitutes, so they could play their whole book,
and didn't repeat any of the tunes that they've played in the last
six months. Many Trad/Dixieland classics were featured.
Craig on clarinet & Lee on trombone sounded very much like the
Dorsey brothers for some numbers.

|
Soul brothers Scotty and Lee don't play together
often, but Lee instinctively knows where and when to blend in.
He picked it up listening to Jack Teagarden!
|
Bob McHenry
couldn't decide on a tune, so he chose Undecided for his
fabulous string bass. Scotty always has the vocal on
Dance Around In Your Bones - and it's always fun.
Jazz is from 2-5pm. The band took a break half-way through
for 'refreshments'. Second set, Frank Stadler started
the first chorus of There'll Be Some Changes Made on piano, and the guys joined in for the second
chorus. |
|
Best part of being here with the Seacoast Stompers
at the Acton Jazz Café is that Jimmy gets to sing so many of the
tunes!
We especially liked his version of Sleepy Time Down
South and Tishomingo.
He joined Carrie Mazzy for Too Busy and What a
Little Moonlight Can Do. |
|
Drums are set to the right. Bei Mir Bist Du
Schön gave Bobby Reardon a
chance to show off his great Traditional Jazz Beat.
He keeps a special set of drums dedicated to
Traditional/Dixieland Jazz. |
Craig generally
stands 'tight end' to the left of the piano,
but joined Bobby for a hot rendition of Ain't Gonna Give Nobody None of My Jelly Roll.
Seacoast Stompers will return September 10th for more great
Traditional/Dixieland Jazz and Swing, with Steve Piermarini on
trombone. See you there.
