The Jazz
Tuber Trio appeared in concert with the Zamir Chorale May 2nd,
2010, at Temple Shir Tikva, Wayland, Massachusetts. The Jazz
Tuber Trio probes the roots of jazz, playing some traditional jazz
and pre-1942 standards. Their name came from the first performance
at the late and lamented Boston Spring Flower Show about 5 years
ago. Ted Casher saxophone, Jimmy Mazzy banjo/vocals, Eli Newberger
Tuba.

Founded in 1969,
The 19 member Zamir Chorale performs music spanning thousands
of years, four continents, and a variety of styles, both classical
and popular. http://www.zamir.org/
They played various songs, some in Hebrew,
Yiddish, with the popular Jazz Trio (with a good trumpet on a couple
of jazz numbers.) Eli, Jimmy and Ted were great, as usual.
Eli played the piano on several numbers.
Then in the third part, both the Trio (with a
drummer) and the Chorus did a selection of Klezmer and popular songs
written by many Jewish songwriters. The director of the chorus
hummed the notes of some Jewish prayers, and then they played the popular
songs that had the same notes, showing the ethnic background of the
tune. It was a great concert!
