The Mood Elevators
intermission at the Jazz Spectacular

by Marce

Intermission -  seeped in nostalgia, 1946-56, Silver Lake, Bellingham -- the Merry-Go-Round.  We could ride the intricately decorated horses, or a fat pig, a plumed ostrich, a rooster, a frog, or sit in an ornate royal coach, and listen to the  Andrew Sisters singing Bugle Boy of Company B - ALL DAYYYY LOOONG!

The Carousel was hauled away a long time ago, but we still hear the fabulous Andrew Sisters, played by Ginny Briggs, Chris Towle, and Karen Tyo, of The Mood Elevators, and that they do.  Their tight vocal harmony and fine arrangements breathe new life into some of the best-loved standards of the Swing Era.   Java Jive, Route 66, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, especially fabulous with Jeff  Hughes backing them on cornet and John Clark on bari sax.  Ah, Memories.

Revisiting old times made us very sentimental, if only for a short time.  But the Mood Elevators will bring us back there again on March 2nd, 7-9:30pm, backed by John Clark (reeds), Ross Petot (piano), Ken Steiner (bass) and John McLellan (drums) at the Sherborn Inn.  See www.moodelevators.com.  Also, if you'd like to get sentimental too, their first full-length CD, Arrive In Style, is now available. Click here for details and ordering information.

Meanwhile, The Andrew Sisters remain ineradicably embedded in my subconscious  (and if anybody has seen that Carousel anywhere, please let me know!!)
